If you have a lot of clogged pores in acne (Pilo sebum ducts), the anaerobic bacterium Propionibacterium acne can start to colonize the area under the plug and cause inflammation and damage. This bacterium only survives in very small amounts in normal skin, since it likes to live in an environment in which little or no oxygen is present.
